Have your friend begin breaking the dispenser with a pickax and while he or she is doing that, press and hold the A button. Place the item that you wish to duplicate in the dispenser. Play the game with a friend and make sure that a dispenser has been placed.

It may also not work following subsequent patches to the game.

Note that this glitch doesn't always work, but it does have a high probability of duplicating items.
